About your pets

What type of pet would you like to insure?

What is your pet's name?

Is your pet currently awaiting a review for any new or unexplained symptoms or conditions?

Currently, we are unable to provide quotes that offer cover for undiagnosed conditions. There may be specialist providers in the market who may be able to assist you.

Do you need cover for any pre-existing or ongoing medical conditions for your pet?

A pre-existing condition is:
  • A condition that occurred or showed symptoms before the start date of your insurance policy
  • A condition that results in the same diagnosis, or is a result of or relates to an injury, illness or clinical sign your pet had before the start date
Common conditions unable to be covered are:
Diabetes, Skin allergies, Cruciate ligament injuries, Hip dysplasia, and Conjunctivitis / Eye problems

We are currently unable to provide a comparison service for pets with pre-existing medical conditions. However, we have partnered with Scratch & Patch who may be able to help you get cover. Not all conditions are able to be covered, for example chronic conditions (those that are persisting for a long time or recurring) and those where test results are outstanding.

Common conditions unable to be covered are: Diabetes, Skin allergies, Cruciate ligament injuries, Hip dysplasia, and Conjunctivitis / Eye problems

Following the screening Scratch & Patch may only be able to offer cover excluding the declared condition(s). Should you then require a comparison quote excluding your pet's pre-existing condition(s), you should return to Confused.com.

About your coverage

Treatment costs can vary significantly. Depending on the size of any claim, and the level of cover you select, you may have to contribute towards the cost of treatment.

Please note that pre-existing conditions are excluded from all levels of cover.

It is likely that your pet premiums will increase, sometimes significantly, as your pet(s) get older and / or if you have made a claim.

What do you need to cover your pet for?

If your pet develops a new condition, how long do you need that condition to be covered for?

For life - Often known as 'Lifetime cover'

The vet fee covers all new medical conditions until the selected amount of vet fees run out. If the vet fee amount runs out during the insurance year, the cover stops until the policy is renewed. At renewal the vet fee cover is fully reinstated, and the condition will continue to be covered by the policy the following year.

Until the vet fee cover amount runs out - Often known as 'Maximum Benefit cover'

The vet fee covers each new condition until the selected amount of vet fees run out, providing the insurance policy is in force. There is no time limit on your claim. When the vet fee cover amount runs out the condition becomes pre-existing and is excluded from future claims.

Up to 12 months - Often known as 'Time Limited cover'

The vet fee covers each new condition for 12 months. If the selected amount of vet fees run out within the 12-month period the insurance will stop paying for that condition, it becomes pre-existing and is excluded from future claims.

It is important to read the terms and conditions of the insurance provider and the policy wording carefully before purchasing.

If you had to make a claim for your pet how much vet fee cover do you need?

According to the Association of British Insurers, the average insurance claim for a cat/dog in 2019 was £789.

Help
This is the value that you can cover for vet fees on each qualifying claim. Many providers have limits on the amount paid on a single claim and on the amount that will be paid out during the lifetime of the policy.

Depending on the cover type, your results will show you;
  • Whether a policy has a limit per accident/injury/condition, an annual limit or a combination of both.
  • How much or for how long you can claim for.
  • If the limits for each accident/injury/condition are renewed each year.
